WF Energy Controls Achieves New Accreditation

August 8 2007

“The National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia (NATA) has varied WF Energy Controls accreditation Current Transformer Test Laboratory,” said WFEC’s Manager Les Cate. “Our accreditation now includes AS60044.1 Instrument Transformers - Part 1: Current Transformers.

“This variation to our Laboratory status will ensure our continuation as a National Measurement Institute’s verifying authority for metering CTs. This will enable us to remain at the forefront of the metering current transformer industry in Australia, when the National Electricity Market (NEM) adopts the new standard.”

Les said this change comes about after many years, as Australian Standard AS1675 for current transformers has been superseded by the new IEC-based standard AS60044.1. “For WF Energy Controls, this has required significant investment in new test equipment including an electronic burden to test at both unity and 0.8 power factor and high voltage impulse testing at 400Hz. In addition, there was software development undertaken for compliance testing, to the high levels of precision demanded by the new standard and the electrical supply industry.

“All general measurement, protection, summation and interposing CT’s are now manufactured to the new standard,” added Les. “WF Energy Controls has new designs for its extended range metering CT’s to meet both the 0.2s and 0.5s classes of new standard AS60044.1, and will commence manufacture when this new standard is adopted by NEMMCO."
